A significant portion of these are normal human beings born with a genetic variant called the "metagene", which causes them to gain powers and abilities during freak accidents or times of intense psychological distress.
⎨MEDIUMSHIP⎬
In Spiritualism the medium has the role of an intermediary between the world of the living and the spirit-world. Luna possesses the ability to see and interact with lost souls and spirits, who have passed on from this world, yet have not moved on into the next one. To her they appear and feel as corporeal as any physical being, and only their clothing or unfortunate state at their demise enables her to tell them apart from the living. Once contact is established, the spirits typically come running, looking for answers or a way out of the darkness, whether that may come in the form of reconnecting with a loved one or getting vengeance over those, who have wronged them - the latter being the prime reason she practises her abilities with great care.

Luna is a living conduit, also and perhaps more commonly referred to as a host. This means that her body is an available vessel for spirits to inhabit and use as their own for short periods of time. The possession is no easy feat and takes its toll on both human and spirit, leaving both depleted and raw in a matter of minutes. Her own mind and soul stays intact throughout the process, enabling her to fight the possession, which is often the case, as the act itself is a rather painful and violating experience.
The purpose of the possession is typically to relay a message, and although this can be done in conversation, more hostile ghosts may choose to speak through Luna rather than with her, briefly making use of her body either to speak out loud or by using automatic writing or drawing.
